Philip’s long-held passion for sports is reflected in his understanding of athletes and the world they live in. His work is constantly evoking the passion and enthusiasm people have for sports and the team had the opportunity to see that passion translated in both his work and description of the shoots. Philip’s work for the England Rugby team 2019/20 resulted in his photography being wrapped around Twickenham stadium.
Philip’s passion in explaining his work was visible in his description of how the body moves and the behind-the-scenes preparation or quick thinking required for each shoot. With many sports fans in the AML group, the excitement for certain athletes’ portraits was palpable as Philip described nonchalantly having worked with Messi, Sergio Aguero, Dame Kelly Holmes, Jonny May, Harry Kane, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Ryan Mason.
The AML team saw the power and elegance of movement through the intensity of Philip’s absence or clever use of bright colours. His work centres around colour and emotion, celebrating both the positive and negative moments of life, capturing them into meaningful and powerful stories.
Summarising his own work Philip Haynes described it as ‘spending most of his time hanging out with sweaty men and women‘.
