John Lewis Christmas ads: Never Knowingly Underspent

In the run up to Christmas the annual John Lewis ads are as crucial as repeat viewings of Love Actually and tipsy choruses of the Pogues.

But they don’t come cheap. In fact, the latest edition, starring the winsome Buster the Boxer, will see a total outlay for John Lewis of £7m.

BBC Radio Scotland asks Ian Henderson if the high street institution is actually seeing value in its ads, and whether other retail brands also need to spend the big bucks to have a good Christmas.
