Tourettes Action

Using music to help people understand a very misunderstood condition

Complicated

Tourette Syndrome is massively misunderstood. And those living with it are too. People think it’s just about swearing, whereas in reality, it’s a whole host of complicated non-deliberate physical and verbal tics, which can be exhausting and embarrassing. And those living with it are often dismissed as disruptive, rude, or someone to avoid. Our challenge was to help people understand that neither of those misconceptions are true.

Simple

Misunderstood was the problem. And the solution. We used Nina Simone’s ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ as a vehicle to tell one girl’s story. Misunderstood every day of her life. With lead singer, Grace Cope, and the Tourette’s choir, we were able to help the public realise that those living with Tourette’s aren’t rude. Or scary. Or broken.
